Little Indonesia is a unique place that is being created in stages in the Charlotta Valley. The inspiration for its creation came from the travels of Mirosław Wawrowski, the honorary consul of the Republic of Indonesia in Poland. We invite you to read the memories of the founder of this extraordinary place.

Bali Indah

My journey to Indonesia began many years ago - it started with dreams of exploring this country. A symbolic turning point was the moment I met the late Ms. Maria Hasiec, an artist from Słupsk, who founded and ran an Indonesian batik school. Ms. Maria became my inspiration not only to dream of traveling but also to fulfill that dream.

At that time, I was building a hotel in the Charlotta Valley. According to our plans, the heart of the hotel was to be the beautiful, exotic SPA BALI HAI, where we employed Balinese masseuses. I wanted the SPA to provide solace not just for the body but also for the spirit, which is why I decided to go to the island of BALI to personally experience its magic.

This trip reinforced my belief that this is a place I want to dedicate the rest of my life to.

Initially sporadic trips turned into regular travels during which I met extraordinary people, customs, and architecture, and above all, the incredible Indonesian art. Unnoticeably, I became part of the community of this country. Saying "I am happy" is too little to express how important it is for me that my efforts to develop cooperation with Indonesia have been appreciated by its government. In April 2022, I was appointed Honorary Consul of Indonesia in Poland (to be checked - scan of the appointment).

When I began to serve this honorable function, the Embassy of Indonesia in Poland organized a special trip for me to this country. I chose Java and the Lesser Sunda Islands as my destination. Thanks to this trip, I had the opportunity for many meetings with governors, regents, local government officials, and above all, representatives of local communities.

I was fascinated by how various religious denominations coexist harmoniously in Indonesia, how the wealth and diversity of cultures inspire the daily lives of Indonesians. It is worth mentioning that the predominant religion on the island of Java is Islam, on Bali it is Hinduism, on Lombok and Sumbawa – Islam, and on Flores, Sumbawa, and West Timor – Christianity. For us, people of the West, Indonesia should be a model of tolerance...

To introduce Europeans to this fourth largest country in the world, I came up with the idea of building "Little Indonesia" in the Charlotta Valley. I started the construction with the island of Bali, which is the most recognizable part of this country in the world.

To validate this ambitious investment, I brought talented Balinese artists and craftsmen (sculptors, stone masons, bricklayers) to the Charlotta Valley. The entire complex was designed by students and staff of the Academy of Arts in Denpasar, Indonesia. This is the first such place in the world.

This Balinese institution also prepared a cultural program based on performances by Balinese artists and craftsmen.

We began the first stage of construction on …, and we will finish on June 15, 2025. Today, a year after the work commenced, I must admit that I was unaware of the scale of this investment. The buildings being constructed in the Charlotta Valley have surpassed the Balinese originals in size while faithfully reflecting the originals. The artists from Bali put all their talent into making "Little Indonesia" near Słupsk a mystical showcase of their island.

We named the first stage of construction "Bali Indah," which loosely translates to "Beautiful Bali." According to our intention, it aims to bring the mysticism and culture of the island closer to the people of the West.

I invite you to visit this site starting June 15, wishing that, like me, it becomes an inspiration for the journey of a lifetime - perhaps to Bali or other exotic parts of Indonesia.
