In the heart of the complex, there is an authentic Balinese temple inspired by traditional sacred architecture of Bali. This place captivates with intricate sculptures and symbolic details that reflect the depth of spirituality and the philosophy of the island. Located in the picturesque Charlotta Valley, the temple becomes a unique meeting point between Eastern culture and the European landscape.
Padmasana is a temple in the form of a tower, topped with an empty throne, dedicated to the worship of Ida Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa, the Supreme God in the Hindu beliefs of Bali. The name “Padmasana” comes from Sanskrit and means “lotus throne.” The lotus flower, symbolizing purity and divinity, is commonly depicted as the seat of deities in Hindu-Buddhist art. According to one interpretation, the lotus throne symbolizes the macrocosm – the dwelling place of God.
The temple is usually situated in the Utama Mandala area, considered the holiest region of the temple complex. It serves as the central point of worship during sembahyang rituals. The symbolism of Padmasana includes the sculpture of the mythical turtle Bedawang Nala, which, according to legend, supported the universe, as well as sculptures of two sacred snakes – Anantaboga and Basuki. Bedawang Nala symbolizes the magma hidden within the earth, Anantaboga – the earth itself, while Basuki – the ocean water. According to the myth, these snakes coil around the turtle, ensuring stability and balance in the world.
